Boycotts

It’s all over social media these days, how people want to punish Jeff Bezos by boycotting Amazon and Kindle Unlimited. Which is all well and good, but the man only owns about 8.8% of the company. The only thing boycotting Amazon will do is hurt independent authors, like myself. I have quite a few good author friends who depend on the income from Kindle and Kindle Unlimited to pay their everyday bills. I put my books into Kindle Unlimited so that more people would have a cost-effective way of reading. Hell, I read via Kindle Unlimited also. And, if I enjoy the book, I usually end up buying it. Now I know what you’re going to say – you can’t “buy” digital books via Amazon – and that’s true. That’s why I try to find the books on the author’s website or their publisher’s website, if they have one. It’s not perfect, and I still have to buy via Amazon at times. But I feel like the pros outweigh the cons, and I’m still doing what I can to support my fellow indie authors.

I don’t blame those authors who have decided to go toward a wider audience – that’s great for them. I suppose I could do the wider release, but to be honest, I don’t have the energy. So for now, I’m sticking to what I’ve been doing since I went independent – using Kindle and Kindle Unlimited to get my books into as many hands as I can. Y’all hang in there!

  1. I choose to support authors and will continue to purchase kindle books on Amazon. Bezo’s is a minor player for Amazon. The only thing a boycott hurts are the small people trying to make a living. I stopped writing years ago because of the narrow minds of people. Please don’t let this stop you from writing and providing us reading material!!

    Thanks!
